2016 NEA-RA Candidacy Form

CANDIDATE FOR OFFICE
MEA ELECTIONS


1.   It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that the Declaration of Candidacy Form is received by the due date and at the proper location.

2. Candidates may not use any part of dues money of the local, Service Center Council, state, or national level to promote a candidacy.

3. District email addresses and district mail shall not be used for campaigning.

4. Candidates shall be notified of the results of the MEA election by phone, within 24 hours of the counting of the votes.  It is the Candidate’s responsibility to provide a phone number to the MEA Elections Chair Person, where the candidate can be reached.  If a candidate cannot be reached by phone, the MEA Elections Chair will email the candidate of the elections results.  It is the responsibility to provide the MEA Elections Chair with the candidate’s current email address, if it is different than the email address currently on file with MEA.   Results of the election will be posted on the MEA website, when the website technician has placed it on the website.

5. CHALLENGES:
a. A challenging party(ies) must notify the MEA President and MEA Elections Chair in writing, using the official Original Elections Challenge Form, Appendix R of the CTA Elections Manual.  The deadline for filing a challenge is three (3) calendar days--date received not a postmark date--after the announcement of the election results, including run-offs, if necessary.  It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that the challenge has been received by the MEA Elections Chair and MEA President.

b. The challenging party(ies) shall notify the CTA President in writing of the challenge, concurrently with the notification to the MEA President and MEA Elections Chair.  The MEA Executive Board (or MEA Rep Council if the MEA Executive Board is unable to do so) shall render a decision on the challenge and send a copy of the decision to the challenging party, all candidates on the ballot, the MEA Elections Chair, and the CTA President, within three (3) following receipt of the challenge.  

c. The challenging party or any candidate affected by the decision of the MEA Executive Board may file an appeal to the CTA President, on the official CTA Appeal Form within three (3) calendar days from the date of the decision.

d. If the MEA Executive Board fails to act within six (6) calendar days of the original days of the original challenge, the challenging party(ies) may appeal in writing to the CTA President within three (3) calendar days from the date that the decision would be due by the MEA Executive Board.  The appeal and all required documentation, as requested on the official CTA Appeal Form, located in Appendix S of the CTA Elections Manual, shall be received by the CTA President no later than 5:00 p.m. on or before the third (3rd) day.  For information regarding the CTA appeals procedures, see the CTA Elections Manual.
